How to Use the Tool

This tool is designed as a questionnaire-based assistant to help assess the lawfulness of your text and data mining activities.

You will be presented with a series of questions. Please answer them truthfully and to the best of your knowledge. None of your responses will be stored or used for any purpose other than being kept only temporarily to generate your personalised report.

Once you complete the questionnaire, you will receive a colour-coded report that highlights your current compliance status:

  • Green: practices that comply with lawful TDM requirements
  • Yellow: areas that should be monitored or clarified
  • Red: issues requiring immediate attention or adjustment

Alongside your report, you will find guidance notes and useful links where you can learn more about the relevant legal provisions and best practices related to text and data mining.

How It Was Developed

This tool was developed as part of postdoctoral research under the ONISILOS Co-fund at the University of Cyprus. The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Grant Agreement No. 101034403.

Its design and functionality are the culmination of an extensive legal and interdisciplinary literature review, combined with an empirical study involving interviews with researchers and practitioners who conduct text and data mining. The insights gathered from these studies helped identify the key legal uncertainties, practical challenges, and compliance needs that this tool aims to address.
